The History of The Danish Church Abroad

1919

The Danish Church Abroad (DKU) is founded 25. March. Work in Berlin is tied to DKU.

1921

The Danish congregation in Flensburg joins DKU.

1923

Danish ecclesiastical work starts in Rio de Janeiro. The following year DKU starts work in Buenos Aires in Argentina.

1927

A Danish church is consecrated in Shanghai. The first issue of Danish Church Greetings is published. 

1928

A minister is sent to Edmonton in Canada. Christians Church in Berlin is consecrated. 

1933

Work in South Slesvig's rural districts begins.

1941

Work among Danish workers in Germany starts in Berlin, Hamburg, Kiel. Later also Vienna, Dresden and Bremen.

1945-1953

Many minister offices are set up in South Slesvig.

1947

Necochea (1947) and Tandil (1952) in Argentina are included.

1953

Ecclesiastical work in Gothenburg starts together with the Danish Seaman's Church.

1955

Frederiks Church in Paris is consecrated.

1958

Danish KFUK in London purchase the property at 43, Maresfield Gardens, Hampstead.

1964

Work begins in Calgary in Canada. The year after the church is consecrated.

1976

The first visiting minister on the Costa Del Sol.

1977

A minister is employed in Brussels. There is also a minister in Luxembourg from 1994.

1988

Sydney gets a permanent Danish minister after many years with visiting ministers on extended visits.

1997

Work in Switzerland is expanded with the employment of a permanent pensioner's minister. 

2001

Margrethe church in Fuengirola is consecrated.
